Night of the Living Dead 3D
ZOMBIES
Reviewed by Marshal Earp
The dead will never look so alive.

An homage to and a remake of the original, this film follows a group of survivors trapped in a farmhouse battling a siege of undead zombies. I had high hopes for this one prior to it being released. Though it has a few solid points the end result is a mixed bag that will piss a lot of people off.

Did somebody say 3-D? Nobody ever does this anymore, not since the glory days of Jaws 3D and Friday the 13th 3 so I give them major props for adding this feature. Yes it's gimmicky but still lots of fun. It's just a shame that most people that watch this will not see it as intended.

The Good
The zombies are flipping awesome! The FX on these ghouls are top notch. They spared no time or expense making the undead look very rotten and beastly. Some of them look down right otherworldly.
Sid Haig's character was a goofy bastard, in a good way. He made me chuckle a few times. Nice job by Sid playing this campy role well even if some of the laughs were unintentional.

The Bad
They took a horror classic and reinvented it into a cheesy, campy stoner flick. All I can say to that is "wow"... that and I'm hungry.
Ben is a goofy, white bastard. Yep, that's right, our classic hero has been reinvented to some pimply college kid, yay! And with one-liners like "Who the fuck died and made you the judge of me?" you know he rocks.

The acting is bad... real bad. It's nowhere near the worst I've seen but pretty much your standard run of the mill low budget variety. They give us some lame half assed explanation about why the dead are rising from the grave. It wasn't necessary and quite frankly it was pretty stupid. Just leave it a mystery.

The gore was surprisingly tame. There were a few decent scenes but overall not what I expected to see. Must have spent most of the budget on zombie make-up.

Well that's it. There's not a whole heck of a lot more to say about Night of the Living Dead 3-D.

So lets summarize. I understand the direction they wanted to take this, however it didn't work. Instead of creating a modern classic, they gave us something we're much more used to seeing, a shitty re-make. The film had promise but it seemed they couldn't decide what type of film they wanted to make. It was hard to tell when the cheese was intentional and when it was unintentional. Bizarre flick that just leaves you disappointed and wanting more.

All is not lost, I did learn some interesting life lessons from this one:
1. If you take a lighter to a zombie they instantly bust into flames for no apparent reason.
2. Creepy bald headed morticians "think they're fucking Jesus!"
3. If you feed a zombie’s blood directly from your veins you will not turn into one.
4. Zombies know how to text message.
5. Punching a zombie while driving full speed on a motorcycle doesn't do as much damage as you'd think.

This does NOT receive the Marshal's seal of approval.

4 out of 10 times I thought Sid Haig would look better in clown make-up.
