Young Frankenstein
The scariest comedy of all time!
Reviewed by GeneralCinema

Many years after Victor Von Frankenstein's death, his grandson Frederick has become a brilliant surgeon in his own right. He teaches at a university, but refuses to accept his legacy until a strange old man tells him of his inheritance. Frederick accepts of his grandfather's legacy and embarks on that same dark journey. When his fiancée shows up and his monster escapes, hilarity ensues.

This movie is a classic. It's the greatest horror spoof ever made and I don't think that anyone will ever make one that even comes close to this. In fact, this is quite possibly the greatest comedy of all time. Mel Brooks has completely outdone himself with this movie and he hasn't made another movie like it since.

Young Frankenstein has some Brooks' staples as Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman, Gene Wilder and Chloris Leachman. Peter Boyle is fantastic as the monster, and Gene Hackman even has a hysterical cameo as the blind man. Mel Brooks made this movie partially as a tribute to the original and even used the props from the original movie.

This is my favorite comedy, and my favorite Mel Brooks movie. The cast had so much fun that Mel Brooks actually added more scenes just so they could stay together, and the chemistry of the actors on screen reflects this. This movie is the inspiration for the Aerosmith song "Walk This Way" and it has some of the best quotables in movies today. I highly recommend buying this movie, just skip over the rental process.

There have been other great Mel Brooks movies, but they all fall short when compared to this masterpiece. Maybe it's because the original draft was written by Gene Wilder. Maybe it's because the chemistry of the crew was so strong, success was inevitable. I personally think that it's because the movie honored the original and didn't take its plot too seriously. They played it for what it was...a comedy. Too many times we see a movie today that takes itself too seriously when it shouldn't or doesn't take itself seriously enough. They can ALL learn from this movie.

To put it in perspective, my mother laughs at almost nothing, but she likes this movie. I would say that the movie is THAT good, but honestly, it's much better than that.
