Women's Camp 119
No experiment was too perverse!
EXPLOITATION
Reviewed by The Horrorist

A camp of Jewish women are taken to a special death camp where they’re used for fiendish, sleazy and excessively brutal experiments.

This is a seriously dark flick. Most exploitation films take shocking and horrific things, things that should be taken seriously, then plays them for sleazy entertainment. It’s really quite repulsive, I’m ashamed to like it, but I do. This movie, however, doesn’t really play it so much for fun as for sick, sadistic kicks. Which is kinda entertaining, but just not right for what I look for in exploitation.

This one’s just cold and brutal. Sex is forgone and replaced with a grimmer, darker vision of the sexual experiments that so many films have used and somehow made less horrific, or at least horrific in a more entertaining and less disturbing way.

Don’t get me wrong, this movie isn’t as hard as Ilsa and the like. Instead of a torture scene of a naked woman being electro-dildoed, this one is just too real. Actually it really is, the experiments were all based on Nazi records, and that’s probably the problem. The campiness isn’t fun at all, and neither is much else. Serious brutality is all we get here, served cold.

The upside is this movie is disturbing but somewhat moving. The end is both depressing and a little inspirational. The main problem is in good exploitation the more brutality heaped upon the main victim the better, because you know that in one way or another, she’ll get her payback. Not so here, here the victims are pretty much what they really were, victims.

All this is valid, but when it comes down to it, when I compare this to the exploitation I really like, it falls short because it just doesn’t fit in.
