Wishmaster 3: Beyond the Gates of Hell
Three wishes, one nightmare.
Reviewed by SirWiggle

On an unassiming college campus in Anywhere, U.S.A., a bright young co-ed named Diana discovers a red jewel in an ancient Persian relic. Diana unknowingly releases the Djinn who will use the suffering of her friends to draw from her three wishes. If he is successful it will unleash a race of Djinn on the world truly causing Hell on Earth. By the way, that's bad.

The first Wishmaster had a great villian and an original story. I really liked that film for its creativity and imagination. Wishmaster 2, on the other hand, was a steaming pile of dog doo that really soured me on this series. This film is a much welcomed rebound to respectibility. It looks and feels like a professionally made motion picture, something that cannot be said for part two.

What really made this film work for me is that it decided to go back to its roots and stay faithful to the first film. The Djinn is again seen as a relentless creature intent on nothing but overtaking the world. It was his callousness and his clever way that made the first film a success and this film a welcomed addition to the series. There can also be something said for the gore in this picture. It was very well done although some parts worked better than others.

However, there were some things I would have liked to have seen done differently. For example, I think there was not nearly enough screen time for the Djinn in costume. Secondly, some of the kills were not as creative as in the first two films. The death of Katie in the science building left a lot to be desired.

Overall, my initial reaction was to heap nothing but praise on this film for being so much better than the second installment. It still needed a bit of work but nonetheless it was entertaning.
