When a Stranger Calls
Every babysitter's nightmare becomes real...
Reviewed by jareprime

Jill Johnson is about to have the night of her life. Hired as a baby sitter for the Mandlakis family, Jill will soon have a night of terror that will follow her years later. What first appears to be a series of prank phone calls is in fact the evil actions of a deranged killer.

"Have you checked the children?" A simply chilling question that most of us have probably forgotten about, but when you hear it, your blood will run cold. And this is also one of the greatest lines in a horror movie ever. But has just been forgotten, and would you like to know why? The movie kills itself.

This movie is basically in three parts. The first is truly great. It deals with Jill as a high school student watching two small children and being stalked by a killer. Although this segment is basically an urban legend brought to life, it is fantastic, and an ending that will blow you away if you have never seen it before.

The second part of the story deals with the above mentioned killer and his road to recovery and the side story of the detective that caught him. Nothing really is added to the story. The third part deals with Jill about five or so years later being stalked again. Once again this adds nothing to the story and if this part of the story had to be told, it should have been in a sequel form.

I'm guessing the reason the movie was done in the way it was to fill out an hour and a half, but it is the first 20-25 minutes of this movie that are truly frightening and chilling. If you have never seen this movie or do not know how the first twenty minutes end, then watch this one immediately, if not then call a horror buddy and ask "Have you checked the children?", just to test them.

4/10

I agree with Prime wholeheartedly on this one. This is another one of those full length movies that I wish was a short film. The first portion of the film is truly tense and scary. But the first 20 minutes of the film is so well done that the rest of the movie can't come close to touching it. The end result is that the movie winds up being a big let down.

I'll put it this way. When I first saw the movie, it just happened to be on my TV late one night before I was preparing to go to bed. The first 20 minutes of the film had me so shaken that I couldn't get to sleep afterwards (and I wasn't even babysitting). As a result, I stayed up and watched the rest of it. By the film's end, I had absolutely no problem sleeping soundly for the rest of the night.

I give this movie 4 out of 10 times you wish you would've had caller ID
