Waxwork II: Lost in Time
A killer is waiting... in the past, present and future
OTHER
Reviewed by GeneralCinema

Mark and Sarah have survived the events from Waxwork. All that remains is a disembodied hand, which kills Sarah's father and gets destroyed shortly thereafter. Accused of murder, Sarah and Mark go to Sir Wilfred's house for evidence of her innocence and grab a device which allows them to travel through time, space and other dimensions filled with different horror characters.

This is by no means a good movie. It's almost like a series of short stories in one movie, each time period being another story. While the format is done well, the movie is still incredibly campy.

What's great about this movie is that it begins almost exactly where the first movie ends. It also takes itself seriously to an extent. There is an actual plot, which isn't too bad, but it gets ridiculous toward the end. It almost seems like it parodies the movies that are referenced. This isn't entirely a bad thing, since we get a new take on Frankenstein's Monster and Alien.

We also get an appearance by The Chin himself, Bruce Campbell. If anybody watching this takes it seriously, you need heavy sedation. There's a scene involving him and his exposed ribs, which is hysterical.

There is nothing remotely scary in this movie. There are several scenes that are laugh-out-loud funny and towards the end, the movie just gets stupid. Also, like the first one, there is no nudity which would have been welcome.

Following the style of the first movie, we get the likes of Alien, Frankenstein, and Nosferatu among others. As stated above, towards the end, it gets kind of stupid since we see two characters fencing and stepping through various time doors entering other "horror dimensions". During this we get a nice montage of horror tributes.

Of course I love this movie. The unabashed craziness of the movie has to be seen to be believed. Having lots of cheese and absolutely ridiculous it's very entertaining and definitely worth a rental.
