They Live
ALIENS
Reviewed by jareprime
You see them on the street. You watch them on TV. You might even vote for one this fall. You think they're people just like you. You're wrong. Dead wrong.

Aliens are among us! Not only are the among us but they are us. Our police, politicians, bankers, street punks, none have been spared in the aliens attempt to take us over. Using hidden subliminal messages in an Orwellian fashion the aliens have been able to convince us that they are not even here, they have even been able to mask their ghastly appearances from us. But now small groups of freedom fighters have begun to expose the aliens for what they are. With the use of specially coated sunglasses people are able to see the hidden messages of OBEY, LISTEN and FOLLOW, plus through the glasses the aliens horrible faces are revealed in their true form. A group of hired construction hands living in a homeless shelter will be the first to strike back in John Carpenter's They Live.

Let's get ready to RUUUUMMMBLE!!! WWE superstar "Rowdy" Roddy Piper stars as Nada, the burly mullet-wearing average Joe who goes on a little alien ass-kicking spree. We also get sci-fi and horror staple actor Keith David as Frank, Nada's brother in arms. For a quasi-love interest we also have the enchanting Meg Foster as Holly, I don't know about you but Foster has to have one of the most enticing set of eyes ever, beautiful.

Full of one liners and testosterone, They Live is a great us-against-them flick, where you just know the aliens are gonna get an ass whipping Texas deathmatch style. Although this is true, the best fight in the movie and one of the most realistic fights ever is between Nada and Frank as the two buddies duke it out over the truth. Piper and Keith both do great jobs and it is a shame Piper never got a chance to be in another big action film, he has done a shit load of horrible B movies, although Hell Comes to Frog Town was a diamond in the rough.

The aliens look like humans with no skin and really aren't that scary. No special powers, just evil world dominating psychos. Nothing a boot to the ass won't fix. They Live also gave us one of the 80's best catch phrases when Nada strolls into a bank armed with a shotgun and quips "I'm either here to kick ass or chew bubble gum, and I'm all outta bubble gum." Let the ass kicking commence!
