Eve is dead, but before her body can be destroyed something happens,
she gives birth. The child is taken by a scientist and raised
as his own daughter as he tries to find a way to help her condition
before she comes of breeding age. But the many half-breed children
of Patrick (Species II) are out to get the pure blood child
of Eve and Patrick now known as Sara. Can her adoptive father
and his assistant help Sara before her reproductive urges take
over or will mankind face a new and more lethal version of the
species?
This
is the direct to video sequel of the Species franchise.
Although Natasha Henstridge does make a brief cameo, she passes
on her alien heritage to newcomer Sunny Mabrey who plays the new
intergalactic hottie Sara.
Species
III is an 80's throwback, and by that I mean there is a lot
of T&A and some classic splatter-gore provided by good old
puppetry that is very reminiscent of The Thing, but first
the T&A!
Sunny
Mabrey is a stunning blonde who plays Sara and has no affinity
for clothing what so ever. In nearly every other scene she is
topless or showing her ass, also a half-breed named Amelia, played
by Amelia Cook, spends her nearly five minutes of screen time
topless as well. Although Mabrey is attractive, she just didn't
have that coldness or predator look that Henstridge brought to
the roles of Sil and Eve, but she is eye candy.
The
effects are also pretty good, aside from a little CGI, most of
the work is good old school style air bladders and Kayro syrup
pumps, which for today's movies are almost relics. The film also
does a decent enough job of linking the three films together.
What's
wrong with this flick is the scientific mumbo jumbo that surrounds
it, nuclear reactors, chemistry, genetics, way too much and the
whole half-breed thing just didn't work for me either and watching
Sara and them interact was like watching a Highlander movie.
Species
III isn't that bad, but I watched the unrated version, so
if you saw it on Sci-Fi I'm sure it was toned down considerably.
although Species is the best of the series this film is
not a bad direct to video foray, but they get weaker with each
installment.
