A
very weird naked boy covered in blood is wandering around the
woods, he wanders into the police station and if that isn’t weird
enough, almost immediately strange things start happening. The
bloody kid keeps bleeding out of every orifice, the Sheriff’s
out in the woods looking for who knows what, and the deputies
are absolutely wiggin’ out.
A bit later they finally fingerprint the boy, and every single
fingerprint comes back as that of a different person, including
a bunch of missing or deceased locals, 10 in all, one for each
fingerprint. Even more trippy, is that when file photos of the
missing and deceased are torn up and mixed and matched, the bloody
boy's visage is an amalgam of all of those missing or dead. Creepy
stuff indeed.
That’s all the plot you get for fear of spoiling anything. Shallow
Ground is absolutely impossible to pigeonhole into any one
subgenre, and I’m not even going to mention any that it could
be in for fear of ruining the movie. Needless to say that if you
love your horror bloody, disturbing, and completely suspenseful,
mysterious and unrelenting, then this is your movie. My friends,
don’t walk, run to the video store to either buy or at the very
least give this one a rent. I'm not saying it's a white-knuckled,
thrill ride, but the film stayed compelling for the duration.
Writer/Director Sheldon Wilson has done an absolutely fabulous
job at keeping us wondering what’s up, I mean you never really
grasp or understand what the hell is going on! Why is this kid
naked and bleeding, why does he bleed more out of different orifices
at different points in time? We get more and more misdirection,
but nary was a clue thrown our way as to help us figure out what
the hell is going on, and the suspense was killing me!
Filled with very able bodied actors who played their parts well,
the quality was very much above what we would see billed as a
Sci-Fi Original, or a made for cable movie. This gem excelled
in nearly every aspect. The film quality was great, acting great,
gore EFX wonderful, story was outstanding. It’s no wonder that
Shallow Ground is the recipient of the “Best Picture Audience
Award” at 2004’s Dead by Dawn Film Festival.
Do I sound excited? Good because that’s what I was going for,
it isn’t often that a gem like this pops up in the independent
horror film world, so when it does, I shake my fist at the Gods
of Hollywood horror and scream “THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE AN ORIGINAL
HORROR FLICK!” I really enjoyed this and really hope that Writer/Director
Wilson is noticed and we get to see more from him in the very
near future. Highly Recommended!
Camp Ground: Cool
premise, abundantly bloody.
Burial Ground: Very
few clues as to what’s going on.
Review Rating: 9 out
of 10 hideously fish-hooked corpses.

Absolute brilliance. This film was incredible from start to finish.
NFlames' review was right on target.
From the opening scene my eyes were glued to the screen for the
duration. What made me even more impressed with this movie was
after learning that the budget for this project was very minimal
(Shallow Ground cost a little over $70,000 to make) The acting
was top notch and the dialog was very believable.
I dont think 5 minutes went by that I did not get a chill doing
down my spine. One fault however, would be I think the story got
a little too complicated near the end but the director did a good
job in not letting this masterpeice swirl out of control and lose
the audience. Right when I said to myself "This is where
the movie should start to wrap up" within 2 minutes the story
came together before dragging on.
Plenty of blood, suspence, mystery all put together with very
scary imagery... Highly, highly recommended. Its a shame this
movie has not gotten more recognition. Guarenteed not to disapoint
any horrorfiend.

Yes,
I fully agree with everything said in the last reviews. My thoughts
are that no, absolutely no horror fan should go without seeing
this movie.
From the very begining this movie grabs your interest. The acting
was right on par, and best of all, it was original. A first of
it's kind. When you watch this movie, you are seeing THIS
movie, not a countless number of other movies.
The gore was done perfectly. They did not get out of hand and
make it ridiculous, but at the same time, when parts were supposed
to be gory, the gore came in mass amounts without being just silly.
The whole direction of the movie kept you on the edge of your
seat from opening scene to closing credits. The atmosphere, was
extremely chilling and creepy. Makes you think twice about wanting
to go to campgrounds.
Best of all, as I mentioned, it was a totally original story that
always kept you guessing. It definately is not a predictable movie.
You don't sit there watching, saying, I know what's
gonna happen next. With this movie, you just sit back and enjoy
the ride. This one I reccomend to anyone who likes horror, or
who thinks they can always predict what happens in a movie. As
mentioned by NFlames, either buy it or rent it...just watch it.
I would give it a 10 for 2 gory arms, 2 gory legs, and a blood
covered head
