Salem's Lot
In a small town, evil spreads quickly.
REVIEWED BY THE HORRORIST

A writer returns to the small town of Jerusalem's Lot where he spent his childhood, to write a book about the nature of evil in a small town. At the same time, a powerful vampire is also invited in, and begins to eat his way through it.

I thoroughly enjoyed TNT’s version of Salem’s Lot. The cast was excellent, the story was well done and everything about it smelled of a quality production. I’m not going to compare this with the original much because I don’t think it’s a fair comparison, I never watched all of the original. I tried several times, but about three hours into it I just made up my own story where everyone dies, the end. My story was way better than the original miniseries, from what I saw, but this version is much better than that.

I loved the book, by the way and the scariest part of the book was the only decent part of the original miniseries, the kid floating outside the window. In this version it wasn’t as good, and that’s the only time it didn’t impress me, luckily right around the corner was the jail scene which was creepy as hell.

Rutger Hauer was magnificent , his politely intimidating manner is so evident in this role, I only wish there’d been more of him, although maybe his presence was more impressive because of how rarely he took the screen.

The way the vampires looked, acted and died was all quite creepy. Also I’ve learned that when a girl turns into a vampire, she gets sexier. Just an odd observance. I loved the surprises, they were all done well, and I also loved the zombie-like images of the vampires everywhere, it gave me the same gleefully evil feeling a good living dead flick can.

Salem’s Lot also has the best neck-breaking scene ever, the very best, you’ll know it when you see it.

For me the best and creepiest part of the movie was the little kids vampires (kids are creepy as is) and the unnatural movements and crawling that goes on all through the flick. Very unnatural and affecting.

In short, a great way to spend nearly four hours. King’s story is a great one, and finally a movie version I can actually watch all of. Enjoying it so much was a bonus.
