The
Hammond children; Kim, Alex and little Robin are on their way
home from school. Along the way Robin overhears some kids playing
in an abandoned building. Curious, she goes to see what they are
doing. Inside we find Jude, Kelly, Nick and Wendy playing a hide
and seek type game. They chase little Robin over to a window and
she falls out to her death. The four inside make a pact to never
tell what happened. Outside over top of Robin's body we see
a shadow pass over her. Flash forward six years to the day before
prom at Alexander Hamilton Senior High School and all hell is
about to break loose.
Nice intro? Good cause that’s all I have to say about this heap
of trash. This movie borrows off of Halloween, Carrie and Saturday
Night Fever so bad it is not even funny. We have every stereotype
of teenagers in this one and all the great horror cliches imaginable.
Creepy janitor, check. Multiple who could have done it, check.
Disco showdown at the prom, check. Jamie Lee normally keeps my
attention but dear lord does she ever suck in this one, her dance
made me cry, unlike the one in True Lies that made me hard… oops,
typo I meant to say well… hard, why hide it?
We've got the hot nasty chick and her Vinnie Barbarino stud
trying to ruin the prom and we have a killer taking out the brats
that killed little Robin. By the way the police blame Robin's
death as a sexual assault, I don't even know how they get
that one unless they figured a load blew her out of the window
or something. But the man convicted of the death, a Leornard Murch
has escaped, on the same day of the prom, nice coincidence. This
movie just tries so hard to make you try and figure out who could
be doing the murders like a mystery, but hell if you can even
stay awake through it you'll be happy.
There is also this great shower scene in the girls locker room
that has no T or A. But the worst thing in the whole movie is
"Slick" AKA Seymore Crane who is supposed to be a stud,
but looks like someone spliced an extra greasy Ron Jeremy with
an early 70's Elvis, nasty people. But he does die in one
of the most ridiculous vehicle crashes ever. This movie has only
one good thing in it a half decent decapitation and that’s it.
If you wanna watch a really bad after school special check this
one out, if you wanna go watch paint dry, well it's about
the same.
2/10

Kudos Prime, on what may your most accurate review. I don't
get the reverence this film has enjoyed over the years. Just because
Jamie Lee was in it doesn't make it a good movie. In fact,
it sucks.
Poorly shot, featuring tepid acting and even worse kills, "Prom
Night" is the most overrated slasher movie I've ever
seen. I've been disappointed with films before, but this
movie was also boring, and that's unforgivable.
Not only did hate the completely uninvolving characters, I spent
most of the movie waiting for soemthing to happen. When events
finally did start roilling into slasher territory, it was so timid
that I spent the rest of the running time rolling my eyes and
glancing at the clock. Over the years I've gone back and
tried to watch this a few more times, just to see if I was simply
in a bad mood that day. No dice. I still dislike this movie.
Because the actual prom sequence ends on the one genuine high
note this piece of crap has to offer, I'll grant "Prom
Night"
