The
Freeling family has just moved into their dream home in scenic
Cuesta Verde. After all the hauling and unloading the work is
finally over and they just want to sit back take a break and get
adjusted to their new surroundings, but after hearing some voices
and watching some meat crawl across the kitchen table, they begin
to have second thoughts about their dream home, but it is not
until their youngest daughter, Carol Anne, is sucked into the
television that they decide it's time to get the hell out.
Written by Steven Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper comes
Poltergeist, in my opinion the definitive haunted house movie.
The story is a slow build up but has a great and powerful release,
please feel free to add lib in your own orgasm joke.
At first the Freelings think that the things happening in the
house are acts of wonderment and awe, but things quickly change
and take a much darker and sinister turn and explode in an excellent
ending that has to be seen.
The effects are good and at times scary as hell, from killer clown
dolls to skeletons in the pool Poltergeist has a serious and spooky
vibe the entire time. The cast is also great from Craig T. Nelson
to little Heather O'Rourke, everybody involved does their
parts well and most of all everybody is believable.
Poltergeist has been spoofed or ripped off in many different films
and parodies, this just truly shows how much of an impact this
film had on culture at the time. From the TV to the little toy
phone everything in Poltergeist became iconic in one form or another.
And who could forget the ending, just great fun all the way around?
On a personal note, my favorite scene in the movie is when they
open the door to the little boy Robbie's room and a toy Incredible
Hulk rides by on a pegasus, for some reason I just cackle every
time I see that.
Poltergeist is a great film that is full of jumps, spooks and
a few chuckles. The cast and plot are both impressive and the
movie takes the viewer on a roller coaster of a ride that is fun
from start to finish.
