This
sequel takes place a year after the first one. The Freeling family
Steven, Diane, Robbie and Carol Anne have moved in with Diane's
mother and are trying to put their lives back together, after
their last house became possessed and tried to kill them all.
Only trouble is that what took over the house in the first place
is back and following after the Freelings.
Turns out is wasn't just the graves underneath the house
that was causing the trouble. Out underneath the pool Tangire,
the magic midget, has discovered a mass grave. A Rev. Kane had
lead his followers down there years ago to their deaths, for his
own gain. For some reason or another the good preacher wants little
Carol Anne. Standard fare after this. Our preacher friend begins
to come after our hero family.
Throw in a mystical Indian named Taylor, that’s right Taylor,
not Magic Bear or Spirit Eagle, but Taylor an you got all the
supporting cast you need. The effects are sub par, mainly the
end dimension world and brace wire scene. There are many mirror
and pop out scare jumps but that’s about it. Oh yeah there is
also a powerful enchanted Indian lance, which sucks. The film
has a climax back at the site of the original house from part
one and of course there are lots of household and garage items
that come alive and attack everyone involved. There is also a
good vomit beastie to check out.
This film's only saving grace, hah, is Reverend Kane played
by Julian Beck, who should have had a horror movie career that
should have lasted a life time. Beck is incredible!!! He almost
seems to slither as the preacher. His voice is almost a southern
hiss instead of a drawl. There is a scene where he is trying to
get into the house that is so creepy and chilling that it could
have been a movie in and of itself. There is also this hymn that
the preacher is always singing, if you listen close at the end
they turn it into a demonic chant during the final showdown. I'm
just gonna state this now to tell you much how I liked Beck as
the Reverend. IT IS THE MOST UNDERRATED VILLAIN IN HORROR FLICKS!!!!!
I feel that strong about it folks, he is great. If you don't
believe me watch him again and see for yourself. I don't
even think that the man wore make up for the role.
Movie 4/10
Julian Beck 10/10
