Pitch Black
ALIENS
Reviewed by jareprime
There's a new reason to be afraid of the dark.

A crash landing on a remote planet is going to bring a group of passengers together in ways they would have never imagined. As the sun sets the pilot, a law officer, his prisoner, a young boy and a holy man are going to learn that they are not alone on the planet. As the sun goes down, ravenous flying creatures take to the skies in search of food. In a deadly race, the passengers in arms must find a way off the planet, before it turns pitch black.

This movie belongs to Vin Diesel as the intergalactic mirror eyed bad ass Richard B Riddick. From his first moments on screen until his last, Diesel commands this movie. From the voice to the eyes to his every movement Diesel simply adds to the legend that is Riddick.

Although this may be considered sacrilege to some, not since the appearance of Bobba Fett has a character earned such a reputation and respect so fast. Although Bobba did have less screen time.

Once on the planet all hands are needed if anyone is to survive, Riddick is given the chance to help as well. As night falls and tension and body count rises, Riddick is made into the makeshift leader of the group. Idolized by the young boy with a secret, Jack, despised by his drug addicted captor Johns, feared by holy man Abu' Iman and wanted by pilot Carolyn Fry, Riddick begins to take many roles, while at the same time staying true to his own agenda, escape.

The aliens on the planet look like a cross between lizards and flying hammerhead sharks, cheesy but in a good way. Living underground the creatures only get to come out after the sun goes down. Our heroes must try to make it to a camp site away from their downed craft in order to get the necessary items in order to get their space craft operational. One by one passengers are picked off, but the aliens are not the only ones of whom they have to be afraid of. Back stabbing and treachery lay in wait around every corner as the movie turns into a mad dash of every man for himself, but sometimes heroes arrive from the darkest places.

Pitch Black is an excellent blend of horror, sci-fi and action, and Vin Diesel is incredible as the anti-hero Riddick. A good flick with excellent rewatch value.
