A
group of friends vacation in an old Scottish manor that belongs
to one of their families. During a snowstorm an old book and discovered
and an angry ghost awakened. The ghost takes over one of their
bodies and begins seeking vengeance for wrongs committed centuries
ago.
A mediocre attempt from our friends across the pond, Nine Lives
is erratic at best. Paris Hilton is in it, and now that she’s
a superceleb, she’s given prominent placement on the cover and
in the credits, but not really so much in the movie. Despite this,
you pack of wild dogs, her performance was fine. I know everyone
loves to insult Ms Hilton, but her acting was pretty decent, there
were a couple times when she was a little stiff, but it’s likely
I just noticed it because it was her.
The rest of the cast were unknown to me, and not so well scrutinized.
Sure, she was pretty much playing herself, but since when is that
a problem? Ever heard of Bruce Willis? Action stars all play the
same character in every film, as do most comedians. I’m not sure
you can even call them actors, legally. I wouldn’t.
No, the real weakness in this tale is the tale, which is truly
lacking in luster. Besides that, one of the characters figures
the whole story out without having any reason to suspect any of
it. If one of your friends kills another, maybe the first assumption
shouldn’t be: “He was possessed by a spirit who is now possessing
someone else!” At least wait until another one (to your knowledge)
attacks someone. One attack does not a body-hopping spirit make.
Also later she acts even more irrational in such a way that might’ve
got her an ass-whippin’ had I been one of the people knocking.
She was hot, though.
The ending was kinda good and kinda odd. I’m not really sure if
I liked it or not. Actually I didn’t like it, but I did appreciate
the oddness of it.
