This
is an early 80s flick in the short story vein of Creepshow.
It is a collection of four short stories. However, there is no
connection between the stories, or no overlying theme.
The
first is about a deranged killer on the loose. This story has
an ending that most will find very familiar by now.
The
second has a video game whiz (Emilio Estevez) that gets more than
he bargained for when he makes it to level 13 of a new game. I
couldve swore that this was a full length movie that I had
seen before, but I guess not. I love movies based on old school
arcade games. Not only are they nostalgic and sentimental (as
a teenage video game geek), but they are usually cheesy and you
get to indulge in the 80s fashion and music. Galaga anyone?
The
third story is about a priest (played by Lance Henriksen) who
questions his faith, only to get terrorized by a mysterious character
driving a souped-up truck. I wonder who it is
The
last story is about a giant demonic rat that terrorizes a family.
Yeah, its a demonic rat.
These
stories werent bad. Not great, but not bad. I remember watching
them years ago, so I may be a little nostalgic. The acting was
good and the stories were fairly solid. They were pretty short,
so you didnt have time for much character development, and
you had time for about one good plot turn.
Theres
not much more I can say about this. There were some famous actors
having early pre-stardom parts, and there were a couple ideas
that may or may not have been borrowed by others later in time.
I wasnt bored, but I wasnt enthralled either. I give
it 5.25 out of 10 reasons to quit smoking.
