May
is a freaking nut job by which all other nut job’s are judged.
Born with a lazy eye, her mother had her wear an eye patch to
cover it up so that kids will like her. So a little girl wearing
an eye patch to school is going to make things better eh? The
eye patch doesn't work, kids point, laugh and make fun, kids are
so damn cruel. May's psycho mother gives May a freaky ass doll
for her birthday one year and tells her "If you can't find a friend,
make one." This my friends begins what has to be one of the better
psycho films in a long time.
Angela Bettis nailed the part of May, she plays a fucking nut
like nobody's business, I don't know how many times during the
movie I said out loud "This chick really is freakin' crazy!" And
every time I looked over at my wife's face, she just had that
wide eyed, dropped jaw look. Absolutely bars on the window crazy.
Her co-worker Polly isn't much better, but she's only mildly weird
and ditzy, what a pair! Not a lot of gore, some blood, nothing
that really made me wince, but it was decent. Anyway, May is on
the hunt for someone she can call a friend, her relationships
keep going down the toilet, and finally she snaps and decides
to make her own friend. What follows is something that resembles
a cross between Carrie without all the supernatural stuff, and
Pieces.
One of the only things that got to me is that May didn't just
become crazy, she was well on her way during childhood, and by
the time she reached adulthood I'm sure she would have been committed,
either that or at least she'd have been given some lithium tic-tacs,
there's just no plausible reason why a person this disturbed is
amongst the populous, but it's a movie and I accept that. Another
thing is that it takes a while to get going, but once it does,
LOOK OUT!
If you love movies that are about completely insane people you'll
definitely love this one! Recommended!

One point I must correct you on Flames, her mother doesn't
make her wear the eye patch so kids will like her. If you have
a lazy eye you have to wear an eye patch to correct it. The reason
I know this? You guessed it, I had to wear an eye patch as a kid.
Now in a normal world your eye patch just looks like a big bandaid
for your eye, not something you would see on Blackbeard.
With that said you can prop me up next to your slack jawed wife.
What a freaky ass movie! Angela Bettis plays shithouse rat crazy
like nothing I've ever seen. Nothing corny or over the top
just quiet deliberate insanity. She was absolutely brilliant.
I don't know if this is something I'd buy and watch
over again just because of the slowness but I'll definately
be recommending it to anyone who will listen.

This was one of the most disturbing flicks I think I ever seen.
The reason being is that i found myself sort of caring about May
as the movie went along. Especially in the beginning. However,
as the movie gets to about the halfway point, you soon realise
the girl is on a collision course and it is going to end badly.
You also start feeling repulsed by May's actions as she seems
to become more and more looney in each scene.
The best comparison I can think of is watching Requiem For
a Dream. The characters in that movie swiftly move down a
similar path of self destruction fueled by drug abuse. May's
vehical is plain insanity. But like Requiem, you know this is
going to end badly. No twist ending here.
That being said, the movie has sort of a Black Comedy feel to
it. There are a few parts that will make you laugh even when things
get grisly. Angela Bettis's acting in this movie is almost
worthy of an Oscar nomination in my opinion. This movie just wouldn't
have worked if it had a lesser performance from it's lead.
Reminded me much of Sissy Specick in Carrie. Great job!
I give it 10 bloody eye gourges out of 10

During the first ten minutes of May, I thought it could
become the Carrie of our generation, but by the one hour
mark, there is too much story that is uneeded and you end up disliking
the character a bit. With a rewrite this flick could have been
an awesome movie, it just takes so long for things to happen.
Like everyone else I loved Angela Bettis and thought she was a
perfect fit for a hot/spaz/psycho/stalker chick and her performance
is what kept me watching this one and her performance is worth
a good rating for the film alone. I just think in the end May
could have been much more and much better.
