Sean
Crowley is your everyday, run of the mill, working class Joe just
trying to make an honest living. One sunny California day while
painting a vacant house he meets Duke (George Wendt). After shooting
the shit, they part ways with a polite exchange of phone numbers
with a possible work relationship in the future. Little did Sean
know that acquaintance he made would change his life forever in
an unspeakable way.
Duke
introduces Sean to his boss Ray who is played by Daniel Baldwin.
In a drunken state, Ray offers Sean $13,000 to kill a local government
official in an effort to keep Rays profitable business
up and running. This is were Stuart Gordon takes this interesting
little tale down a trippy and brutal spiral of terror.
I
first heard of this movie in Fangoria roughly a year before
it's release. It sounded very promising and I was very much looking
forward to it. I was not at all disappointed when I finally got
a chance to catch this flick.
This
movie takes little time to really get going and once it does,
it is absolutely nonstop brutal imagery and unbridled horror till
the credits roll. Sean is a very relatable character and Gordon
really does a great job of making the viewer truly feel for the
pain he's being put through during the movie. Truly disturbing
stuff.
Not
a whole lot of gore here, but I think the people behind the makeup
effects of King of the Ants deserve a great deal of credit. Each
day Sean's face turns more and more gruesome and it is very realistic.
No
little story twist, no real horror clichés, no bullshit
side-storylines. King of the Ants is very refreshing in
today's horror scene. Also has one of the coolest box covers Ive
ever seen.
I
highly recommend this film to any horror fan. Very little downtime,
a great story, decent acting with very good dialog, a couple jaw
dropping "what the fuck did I just see" moments make
this one of my favorites.
