Alien flowers fall to earth and begin duplicating humans one by
one. The people left don't know who to trust, and no one believes
them anyway.
The
best thing about Invasion of the Body Snatchers is the
feeling it gives off. Lots of movies stay right there on the screen,
you watch it with your eyes, and that's it. My favorite horror
movies are the ones that go beyond that. I want to feel the movie,
I want the light from the screen to go through my eyes and manipulate
my brain. I want to feel the movie, not just watch it.
This
isn't a great movie, but I really like it. It's gloomy, hopeless
and most importantly, paranoid. You feel every bit of it. While
you're watching you're mentally accusing everyone of being a "pod"
before any of the characters can.
Horror
movies reflect our fears, or capitalize on them. Either way, it
makes for a better watch than some slasher that was thrown together
just to make a quick buck. The paranoid fifties spawned this movie,
and in the seventies, when Americans realized their country was
controlled by liars and thieves we got the remake.
Like
I said, it's not a great movie, but it's on my list of favorites.
I've watched it about twenty times and still like it, so how bad
can it be. It's a good solid flick, a little creepiness and a
lot of suspense, and most amazing of all: no violence whatsoever.
Yet still very good. Go figure.
