Snoop Dogg's Hood of Horror
OTHER
Reviewed by jareprime
It ain't all good in the hood.

Three tales of urban horror are about to unfold homies, so sit back, blaze one and let the hound of hell himself, Snoop Doggy Dog lead you through the dark and into the light in Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror.

Like Creepshow, Tales from the Darkside, and Twilight Zone: The Movie, Hood of Horror takes a few short segments and wraps them together into one movie. But the questions is does the Dogg have any bite in his second horror outing or is it mostly bark? Well, read on to find out.

Hood of Horror starts with a pretty nifty animation style opening and then after a brief opening by our host, the Dogg, we head into our first short entitled “Crossed Out.”

In this chapter a young lady tries to clean up her side of the hood, by cleaning off the work of local gang taggers in her alleyways, but she soon finds out she is doing more than wiping off their work, she’s wiping them out as well. But will her new found ability save her and her community or end up damning everyone in the end? For an opening segment “Crossed Out” is pretty solid. It has a good story, some damn fine blood, and one hell of a kill cause by a beer bottle that was very original. Plus it also has cameos by Billy Dee Williams and Danny Trejo!

After a brief rap up (Get it?) by our host we head into segment number two entitled “Scum Lord”, which is probably my favorite of the series. In “Scum Lord” a group of veterans who have been living a home, donated to them by a well-to-do former brother in arms. Are getting the boot when their former war buddy dies and his hotshot son steps in to collect his inheritance. Before you know it, the son and his socialite girlfriend have moved in with the veterans and are doing their best to drive out the former soldiers and after taking all they can, the old soldiers are going to go back to war. This chapter had a lot of heart and it’s sad to say it’s probably a situation that has or is happening from time to time. Its clear-cut and simple, you root for the good guys and are happy when the bad guys get their due, even if it is by caviar. Also Ernie Hudson gives a great performance in this one.

Our last entry in the series is entitled “Rhapsody Askew” and this short deals with a rapper known as Sod’s meteoric rise to fame and his eventual fall back to a harsh reality. Mad TV’s Aries Spears, wrestler “Diamond” Dallas Page, Jason Alexander and great character actress Lynn Shaye lend a hand in providing another fairly entertaining tale with “Rhapsody Askew” but this one plays more like a VH1: Behind the Music episode only with a little touch of the undead added to it, but it’s still fun.

All and all I was fairly impressed with Hood of Horror and I think it deserves a look by some of you as well. If you’re a fan of the anthology style horror films, then get this one today, but if you’re looking for something a little different and a little familiar as well, then give it a rent tonight.
