Based
on one of America's most notorious serial killers, Henry:
Portrait of a Serial Killer, is a chilling and brutal look into
the mind and life of Henry Lee Lucas. Henry, the son of a prostitute,
was abused physically and sexually his whole life, this is the
reason that Lucas says caused him to hate women and to have allegedly
killed more than three hundred and sixty people from the late
60's to the late 70's. Lucas did in fact kill his mother
and scores of others, but he has also been accused of lying about
several others to avoid the death sentence for his crimes.
The film looks at the time Lucas would spend with fellow killer
Otis Toole in their rampage through Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.
Killing mostly for fun and in random ways Lucas and Toole were
extremely hard to pin down to one crime or another, it is not
until Otis' sister Becky gets involved that things unravel
for Otis and Henry.
Henry is played with a sadistic delight by Michael Rooker in what
should have been a break through role, but the film was a small
and widely missed independent release. With no feeling or remorse
or a sense of right and wrong Henry Lee Lucas simply lived his
life surviving on the misery of others. This film only captures
a brief part of Lucas's life, to tell the whole tale would
take a miniseries, but if you are a fan of real life monsters,
then Portrait of a Killer should not be missed.
