When
he began fusing human and shark DNA, his colleagues laughed at
him. Now his creation is taking his revenge, and they aren't laughing
anymore.
A
scientist obsessed with saving his sons life turns to experiments
that have him playing god and toying with other peoples
lives. Through his work, Dr. Preston King has been able to splice
human DNA with stem cells from hammerhead sharks and the results
are horrifying. When the financiers of his work come to his secluded
island to see his progress in cancer research, they
find something totally different waiting for them and its
hungry. Something smells fishy in this one and it isnt the
chum bucket!
Hammerhead:
Shark Frenzy is a very predictable low budget horror, but
being the shark fan I am, I had to go ahead and rent it for hell
of it, plus it stars William Forsythe and Jeffery Coombs.
The
plot of the film goes down many different paths that affect the
flow of the story. It goes from mad scientist to creature flick
to action, back to mad scientist in about every other scene and
it just kind of keeps repeating itself over and over.
The
effects are fairly bad as the creature goes from guy in a rubber
suit to claymation-esque CGI. There is some blood splashes and
limbs bit off but nothing all that amazing. The action sequences
are what are truly terrible and they are laughable to put it nicely.
On
the good side, however, Hammerhead does have two good performances
from Forsythe and Coombs. In the lead Forsythes gruff voice
and mannerisms carry over well and Coombs seems to be playing
a slightly more twisted version of Herbert West, which is always
fun to watch. Hammerhead also has millions of gallons of ice cold,
crystal blue ocean water and many well tanned braless beauties
in white halter tops and thats always a good mixture in
my opinion, even if the plot lines of the story are more like
oil and water.
