Laura
Ramstead is only days away from graduating high school, she and
the rest of the 1981 class of Midvale High have their whole lives
in front of them. But during the last track meet of the year Laura
will tragically die of a heart attack during a hundred-meter race.
The rest of her life lost in a mere thirty seconds. Although her
death is caused by a heart attack, her family and close friends
believe that something or someone was actually behind her death.
One year later to the day of Laura's death, Midvale High School
will be plagued by a bizarre series or murders that all seem to
have one thing in common, Laura Ramstead. Is it vengeance from
the grave? Or vengeance from another's grief stricken heart? You'll
only know if you can survive Graduation Day!
Yeah
I know that was a lengthy intro for a teen slasher flick, but
hey what can I say I have a flair for the dramatic, but in truth
Graduation Day is your standard 80's slasher flick with
plenty of blood and T&A to enjoy, but it also has something
a little different.
Aside
from the entire "horror movie" cliché plot, Graduation
Day does have a pretty damn good ending that is both very
dark and quite surprising, which makes the film a little better
than you might expect.
Graduation
Day surprised me with it's plot twists, and by the end I was
quite surprised at who the killer was, and I have to say it's
done very well and the ending may be on par with say, Sleepaway
Camp as far as pure shock value goes.
This
film does have it's share of flaws as well. I love the fact that
at Midvale High all sports are still going on one day away from
graduation and you also have to wonder if Laura was the smartest
kid at Midvale, because all of her class mates must of had to
repeat their senior year, in order for the revenge to be dished
out.
But
I can let that part go, because it only gave the girls another
year to mature and ripen for the shower room scene, yeah baby!
Anytime I can see some teen T&A I'm a pretty happy pervert,
but when it is a very young Linnea Quigley and Vanna White, I'm
even more happy.
But
the worst part about this flick, and I mean WORST, is during the
graduation day dance, the band Felony gets to perform their entire
song "Gangster Love", my ears and soul still ache. Dear
lord is it terrible, but at the same time it's funny as hell!
One of those things that just stick with you after you watch it.
All
and all this was a pretty good flick, very routine and quite under
whelming until the ending, which I really feel makes Graduation
Day a pretty good flick if not a really underrated one. Definitely
worth a look.
