Ginger Snaps Back

A “prequel” of sorts to the previous Gingermovies, although I see this more as a stand alone movie rather than a prequel because it really has nothing to do with the first two movies other than the Fitzgerald girls Brigitte and Ginger . Ginger Snaps Back takes us back to 1815 at a trading company outpost in the wilderness. Each spring 36 men traveled out to Hudson Bay with animal pelts, these boatmen would usually return with provisions to last for the harsh winter, however, this year 1815 the men never made it back.

Needless to say, the Fitzgerald sisters are at it again, each has sworn to the other a pact, bonded in blood, that they shall remain “together forever, no matter the cost.” Sounds familiar doesn’t it. Now I’m not going to say that this was the exact same movie as the first Ginger Snaps but side by side, the plotlines are very similar, but with this movie missing the über sarcastic teen angst.

No matter, I did enjoy Ginger Snaps Back just as much as I did the previous two movies. As a matter of fact, this one may be just what those who are looking for more gore in their werewolf stories. In my opinion Back has more gore than part 1 and 2 combined. The writers also included the element of isolation for this movie. Everyone is stuck at this outpost in the middle of winter, and pretty much surrounded by werewolf’s, they have nowhere to go, and they are running out of food.

The gore effects were done by KNB EFX (Evil Dead, From Dusk Til Dawn), one of my favorite gore houses, and it shows, we are also (finally) treated to a brief shot of Katharine Isabelle in the buff (no stand ins here!).

In summary, as I mentioned this movie is VERY derivative of the first, but I never found myself disliking any part. A worthy addition to the Ginger Snaps family.

I can't get enough of the Ginger Snap flicks. They are all solid. I can't believe there hasn't been a heated discussion on which one of the two girls is hotter.

I enjoy movies in this time period. Things were still unknown and largely unexplained. A werewolf or a witch thrown in could help explain alot, even if it was true or not. I'm not surprised at all that the witch trials came about.

Anyway, a good flick. Good story. Good violence and gore(as usual). You have the sarcastic undertone that the girls possess.

Like Flames said, it is not unlike the first one, but who cares? It's a werewolf movie. How many variations can it have without feeling contrived?

In the spirit of significant digits, I give this movie 8 out of 10 leeches that love the taste of werewolf blood. This was never explained in the movie. It felt like the scene explaining this didn't make the final cut or something, but it wasn't in the deleted scenes. Oh well. It's Urban Legend now baby, right up there with Silver Bullets!

I liked this movie a lot and share Paynecraft's feelings about what a great setting the time period is for a horror flick. Not only was ignorance high, but little things like traveling were a really big risk. Running away isn't as convenient as in most horror flicks.

I did like this one the least of the three, though. There were times I just felt things were dragging a bit. The kid was creepy as hell, and pretty much made up for the times I was less interested, though. Also there was lots of ass-kicking and plenty of stress - which is kinda like fear, sometimes.

What I really liked was seeing the films come full circle and pick up the most powerful theme of the first, the bond between the outsider sisters. It made the story and really made the ending.
