The Gift
The only witness to the crime was not even there.

Annie Wilson is a small town widowed mom doing all she can to make ends meet. Annie does all sorts of odd jobs to keep herself and her family afloat. Annie also gives card readings to local people telling them their possible futures. Two of Annie's most regular clients are Buddy Cole, a troubled young man raised by an abusive father, and Valerie Barksdale, a battered woman married to the local King Redneck Donnie. At a party one night, Annie is asked to do a reading for a local couple about to get married, Wayne Collins and Jessica King. Before she even gets a chance to start her reading Annie has a terrible vision that links all of these people together. Unable to explain what she has seen, she now tries to figure out what's going on as the body of Jessica King is pulled out of a nearby pond. As blame and accusations fly, Annie's only hope may now be her "gift".

Co-written by Billy Bob Thornton and directed by Sam Raimi, the Gift is a predictable yet haunting tale of a small town and the secrets it holds.

The Gift also has an all star cast from Cate Blanchett as Annie, to Giovanni Ribisi, J.K. Simmons, Greg Kinnear, Hillary Swank to an actual good performance of Keanu Reeves as Donnie Barksdale. There is also the cameo of Katie Holmes's titties. All of the cast does a great job especially Ribisi and Reeves, even Katie's nipples seemed to be extra perky.

Most of the film is Annie trying to figure out what her visions are telling her, while being hounded by the scumbag Donnie and helping out others along the way. There is one major plot twist that I didn't see coming but most of the story is very straight laced and easy to follow. Definitely a good murder mystery, mixed with some very eerie moments makes the Gift a very solid film all the way around and helmed by a director like Raimi, you know it's gonna be good.

Annie's car is "The Classic" - the Delta 88 Oldsmobile that appears in every Evil Dead movie and nearly every other Raimi movie.

6/10
