Ghost Ship
Sea evil.
REVIEWED BY SIR WIGGLE

While celebrating their latest find, the salvage crew of the Artic Warrior is asked to find a ship seen floating thousands of miles from any port in the Bering Strait. The crew, led by Murphy (Gabriel Byrne), hesitantly accepts and sets out on their mission. After finding and boarding the Antonia Graza, an Italian cruise ship that disappeared in the 1960's, the crew quickly starts to find that they are not alone. Epps (Juliana Margulies) and the rest of the crew try to figure out what happened to the people and the crew of this mysterious boat.

I have to admit that when I rented this flick, I wasn't expecting much to come out of it. From what I could remember, I didn't think this movie did very well at the box office. But after viewing it I was pleasantly surprised.

For all of the gore hounds out there this movie is for you. Actually, the first scene of the movie really stole the show for me. We learn a little bit about the fate of the ship and are treated to a blood bath. After this, the gore is more evenly distributed throughout the rest of the film. Even one of the special features on the DVD deals with the gore effects of the film.

Now on to everyone's favorite topic, the women. There were a grand total of three women in this movie and one of them was about 14 years old. While that might be alluring for people like Prime and Flames, I'll focus on the other two women. I've always been a big fan of Juliana Margulies for reasons other than her acting. She's a babe but in this film her character calls for her to be makeupless and that was disappointing. The saving grace of this film was the sexiest Italian ghost to ever hit the screen. **Bonus** we get to see her in her birthday suit!!!

Overall, I came away from this viewing feeling really good about this film. I believe there is something for everybody in this one. Gore, mystery, hot foreign women, ghosts, and a twist ending make this a very decent flick.

8 out of 10 blood leaking bullet holes

Ghost Ship
Sea evil.
REVIEWED BY HORRORSCOPE

While the Beginning scene in the movie was impressive and a hook to nail the audience early, the rest of the movie seemed to me to fall a bit flat.

Ghost Ship was a "Could have been" movie. It could have been soooooooo much better. It wasn't a bad movie, just filled with "could have beens". There could have been much more scarer moments and the ghosts and damned souls could have been brought out more. I mean all those damned spirits and the only one that seems to want to haunt and hurt people is the sexy singer? If that boat was THAT haunted, there should have been Mass Pissed off Ghosts!

Special effects were nice and the ship was beautiful scenery that enhanced the creepy, horror feel of the movie, but it just did not take off, kept hinting at it and then falling short.

It reminded me of Event Horizon, another perfect example of a "Could have been" movie. Neither of these movies are bad and I have them both on DVD, but they were just "Could have been" in my opinion.

This was a pretty good movie. I was expecting the worst, which is why it took me so long to eventually watch it. I remember the whole MTV release party thing when it first came out, and that alone kept me from watching it for four years.

The often talked about beginning of the movie was in fact pretty bodacious, but the set up of the scene felt a little suspect. There was a lot of variety in the original murders on the ship, and I was confused as to why. It all seemed too elaborate. Maybe I missed something. Plus, I'm a little curious of the whole engineering logistics behind that first scene and if it could actually have been pulled off. I'm putting a call into Mythbusters as we speak.

The movie was pretty creepy. The kills were good. It got a little flat at times though. I feel this was mainly due to the influx of haunted ship movies that all came out at around that same time. For instance, I absolutely knew it was a matter of time before the team would lose radio contact with each other.

I didn't really care for where the plot eventually winded up. I feel in this case that a straight up ghost haunting would have been more effective.

Overall, this was a good movie though. I give this six out of ten actors who used to play in Men Behaving Badly.
