Final Destination 3
This ride will be the death of you.
REVIEWED BY MARSHAL EARP

On what should be one of the happiest days of her life, high school senior Wendy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) joins her friends for a graduation night celebration at a local amusement park. Wendy experiences a vivid premonition of a fatal accident in which a roller coaster ride they are about to embark on becomes a death trap for her and her friends.

Yup, that’s right, silly ol’ death is at it again and this time he’s cranking things up a notch. I must say I was impressed by this film. I truly was not expecting much and to be quite honest I only saw it because I missed the start of another. That being said, I am glad I did.

First of all the plot is shallow and simple, which for a film like this serves well, it led to a quick pace.

What I loved about this as opposed to the first two entries in the series was there were no long drawn out scenes of discussion and arguing. That got really annoying to me at times and I was happy to see the pacing change that took place here. The plot offers no fillers or any deep thought at all instead the real plot summation should go something like this: After surviving a fatal roller coaster disaster two of the would-be victims immediately figures out death is behind this and coming after all survivors. They go on to each other passenger one by one to warn them only to witness carnage after carnage after carnage. That‘s it.

Now how about that carnage you ask? Simply beautiful! This film easily had the most gore and best kills of the entire series. They were also pretty darn creative in applying the gore. I was pretty shocked at how messy things got. Easily one of the more gruesome flicks to come out in a quite a while. Won’t give any of these gems away but let’s just say some of the antics include plenty of squishing, dismembering, frying, burning, and poking. Use your imagination to apply how these took place.

As for the big opening kill scenes these films are so famous for, this one is the worst. And I don’t mean that in a good way. But really how elaborate a death sequence can you have on a roller coaster? You are pretty limited. Needless to say after this opening sequence I had a real bad feeling since that is really supposed to be the money scene with these films. Nope, not the case here. The mayhem deaths after the roller coaster incident more than makes up for what that initial scene was lacking.

I can’t say if this was the best in the series because quite frankly it’s been too long since I’ve seen the first two films. What you got here though is a very simple, quick 90-minute roller coaster ride into bodily harm. I know, forgive the cheesy play on words but I’m a cheesy man. Recommended with the Marshal’s seal of approval even with the cost of a movie theatre ticket these days.

Final Destination 3
This ride will be the death of you.
REVIEWED BY THE HORRORIST
Final Destination is a series that's success is based solely on the entertainment value of the graphic, Rube Goldberg-esque deaths of each of the doomed characters. The plot is only an afterthought, maybe even a little less, but we get what we want and that's that. I find it nearly impossible to tell these films apart, and I guess that's ok.

My only complaint is if your film is exactly the same in plot as the two before it, maybe having a character recite the entire plot of the first two (and this) film is somewhat foolish. I already know what's going to happen in parts 4 and 5, I bet.

Also, oddly enough, this character does this long before it would be possible for anyone to make that leap in logic.

Just the same, an entertaining flick and if you go into this one expecting the death scenes to entertain you, it will probably work just fine. If you're looking for something new or creative, what the hell are you even reading this review for?
