When
Shelia Morris's sister disappeared, all hope was lost, but
after a few months Shelia's friend unearths some footage
of a cannibal tribe, to his horror he recognizes Shelia's
sister Diane as one of the possible victims. Shelia soon hires
a soldier of fortune by the name of Mark Butler to take her in
search of her sister. Once in the thick of the jungle Shelia and
Mark come face to face with Jonas Melvin, leader of a religious
cult, and a very hungry tribe of cannibals. Now Shelia and Mark
must try to find Diane, escape the cult and try to get out of
the jungle without being eaten alive!
From Umberto Lenzi, director of Cannibal Ferox and City
of the Walking Dead, comes Eaten Alive. A sick and
twisted journey into a cannibal and cult infested jungle.
The film stars many of the same faces from Lenzi's other
movies and the film itself is only a slight variation of Cannibal
Holocaust. The actors are stiff and bland, but they go through
some extreme brutality in this flick. One saving grace to the
cast is Jonas Melvyn, the cult leader, who is a delight as the
Jim Jones-like leader.
The blood flows in this one, from the cast to the animals. There
is a lot of munching going on in this one, the best being when
a poor victim is torn to shreds and divided amongst the tribe
members, although I'm sure its chipped ham it looks great.
There is also a lot of animals killed on screen, from crocodiles
to snakes, nothing was safe on this set, if they caught it, it
died.
There is also tons of skin, I mean border line soft core here.
Two highlights are a ritual where three brothers take turns on
their deceased brothers wife, in a pit of his own burnt ashes.
And their is an extremely brutal insertion of a large jewel encrusted
wooden dildo dipped in snake blood, that made me not only wince,
but perhaps permanently shrink the size of my sphincter, ouch.
When I saw this flick long ago it was called Emerald Jungle,
since then I have learned it has a lot of different titles and
I was quite surprised when I found it the other night, under the
name Eaten Alive. If your a fan of the gory skin fest of
low class Italian film making then this one is a prize, if ya
just want something a little nasty then it will be just as sweet.
