Disturbia
HUMANS
Reviewed by The Horrorist
Every killer lives next door to someone.

A teenager who’s sentenced to house arrest entertains himself by spying on his neighbors until one of them seems more and more like a serial killer that’s been butchering young women. With the help of a couple pals and a bunch of gadgets, he starts his own little investigation from the prison of his own yard.

This is pretty much an updated Fright Night but the vampire is now a serial killer. I know most people are going to compare it to Rear Window, but I’m a horror guy and that’s how it is. That being said, Disturbia’s pretty entertaining. A nice, lighthearted little psychological thriller for the teens, that’s my take. As I said, I did enjoy it, but I want to clarify that a tad because in a couple months I’ll have forgotten this flick even existed. These types of movies are churned out of Hollywood like candy bars, a nice snack but without substance.

I don’t have any real complaints, I just don‘t have much to say at all. The story was pretty good, the suspense was abundant and reasonably fresh, the characters were likeable and the story was entertaining.

One thing that made Disturbia better than most of it’s ilk is that once the suspenseful climax began, it played out and that was that. I almost dread the climax in suspense/thrillers because they’re almost always drawn out to the point where it just gets boring. You know what I mean, false scares, dead people hopping back up to attack again, the twist were the character no one suspects is really an omnipotent killer. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve yelled “somebody just fucking die, already, the time when I cared has passed!”

I didn’t do that here, the climactic chasing and killing started, flowed well, then ended. All in all, that statement covers the entire film. I sat down, was entertained and did feel a little suspense here and there, then I got up. Satisfied that I got my money’s worth, but I don’t expect to watch Disturbia again because it’s just not that good.
So all in all, worth watching and if you’re a teenager that likes a little romance in your thriller you might really like it. Keep your eye out, it’ll be in the thirteen dollar shelf at Walmart before long.

7 out of 10 scenes that were unrealistic due to the lack of masturbation

Every killer lives next door to someone.

A kid punches his teach and gets sentenced for house arrest for the summer. After doing a lot of stupid things and making the movie drag out he starts looking out of his window and seeing a reality show all to himself. But when he sees a suspicious neighbor doing some suspicious things he starts to do some investigating.

I actually really liked this movie because of the wrong reasons. It was a good plot and a great thriller but I just didn't like the way they tried to sell it, like they said that it was scary and all that but it just didn't tickle me in that way. It had some decently funny moments which I was expecting but I wasn't there to see funny teens with asian friends and no cable in his room. I was there to see someone get chopped up!

I wanted but I didn't receive. No gore, but a lot of Nancy Drew wannabes. I still liked the movie and I will probably rent it but I wanted to be scared and go to bed with the light on. Plus I was distracted because I kept on picturing Shia LaBeouf as the annoying little kid from Even Stevens.

So, I enjoyed it but just didn't satisfy my horror craving. If you want a good thriller with funny moments, teenagers, and a premature love story this is your movie.

I give it 8 out of 10 Even Steven kids.
