A
psychologist's strange new therapy, psychoplasmics, causes people
to creatue physical manifestations of their repressed rage, usually
in the form of sores, warts or cancer, but sometimes as evil little
kids that get some revenge in the form of a hammer bouncing off
your noggin.
I never have anything bad to say about David Cronenberg, he makes
intelligent horror movies and I always enjoy them, and The
Brood is no exception. I also always enjoy evil kids in movies,
kids are creepy enough as it is, in a horror movie they're perfect.
This movie is most famous for having one of the most vile and
disturbing scenes ever, I think that's an exaggeration, but it's
damned unpleasant and it does make me giggle each time I see it.
My only complaint with the movie is the amount of time it takes
to build, there are several scenes that seem to go on too long,
but considering the complexity and the nuances of the plot, it's
hard to call them unnecessary. Let's call them longer than they
could have been.
The truth is, The Brood is a good flick and a great idea. Like
Shivers or Rabid, Cronenberg's story's are some
of the most original you'll encounter.
In all, an intelligent, well done movie for people with a considerable
attention span.
