The Blob
Scream now, while there's still room to breathe.
ALIENS

One lazy Autumn night a strange meteor crashes just outside Arborville, an old man who lives in the woods does one of the worst mistakes in monster movie history and checks it out. After investigating the meteorite a small gelatinous ball of plasma attaches itself to his hand and slowly eats away at him, fortunately a couple driving by find him, the hard way, and take him to the hospital. After the monstrous blob finishes his dinner and has a quick dessert it escapes and slowly makes it’s way to the small town.

The movie is a remake of the 1958 movie with the same name, directed by Chuck Russell, and it is a big improvement over the original if you ask me. The Blob looks great, way better than the rolling ball of Strawberry Jelly (which makes somewhat of a little cameo in one scene) we were supposed to be terrified of, not only does it squeeze under crevices it shoots out tentacles and is wicked fast!

The acting is alright and we have that one liner near the end and some weird dialogue, but then again which monster movie doesn’t? The gore is pretty solid as well, but most of it is unrealistic. To help you get a mental picture, in one part The Blob pulls someone down a drain, and it was made in the 80’s, so it looks kinda funky. There's also a half-digested woman, and an imploding face. Plus, we get to see some justice served to that noisy man in the theaters that we all hate!

This movie is also pretty scary, although I hate the jump scare technique, they do it really well in here, and you can’t help but feel scared for the characters as they run and hide from the alien fiend.

There are new things added to the movie, there are twists done to the plot and an ending that surprises me that they didn’t make a sequel. And unlike the first one, the Blob is shown more often and surprises us with all the things it’s capable of. All in all this is a real good “Monster from outer space” movie, if you’re a fan of these types of movies or enjoyed the ‘58 version then you’ll be very satisfied with this film, a great movie to watch late at night! Recommended.
