Black Sheep
ANIMALS
Reviewed by GeneralCinema
There are 40 million sheep in New Zealand... and they're pissed off!

After a traumatic prank from his childhood, Henry has developed Ovinophobia (fear of sheep.) He returns to his family farm fifteen years after the incident to sell his share of the land to his older brother. One the day of his return, two animal rights activists break into the laboratory on the farm and obtain physical evidence of genetic tampering in the form of a mutated sheep fetus in a large glass tube. During his escape, the glass tube breaks and the mutated fetus gets out and bites the activist. Later on the fetus bites an adult sheep and trouble follows from there.

I recently got this movie and I'm glad I did. The filmmakers really knew what they were doing and get into the carnage pretty quickly. This is Jonathon King's first movie and I'd like to see where he goes. As a first effort this was done really well and it deserves a lot of praise.

The acting wasn't too bad. Yes the movie is cheesy, but the acting wasn't so much which makes for a better movie. Why don't other filmmakers realize this? If you have at least decent acting in a low budget flick, you'll end up with a better low budget flick.

This leads me to the writing. Once again, the filmmakers really knew what they were doing. Yes the premise is ridiculous and nobody should be looking to get scared with this one, but the script took that ridiculousness and ran with it. I think what makes this movie so great is that sheep are among the most docile of animals. The movie makes them completely bloodthirsty and vicious. That's where the hilarity comes in. For instance, everyone who get bitten by a sheep becomes a were-sheep. Yeah, you read that right. Were-sheep.

Next is the gore. The only two words I need here are: WETA WORKSHOP. That's right, Peter Jackson's SFX company did the effects for the film. That's gonna be all the explanation you're getting from me.

This is one of the better horror-comedies that I've seen. There will be some people that watch this and hate it or there will be those like me. I loved this movie and I'll definitely watch it again. There's not really too much baaad (yeah, I said it) about this movie except that it's just under an hour and a half. I personally would have preferred it to be a bit longer.

I would recommend this for anyone who likes zombie movies. Even though no zombies appear in the film it follows the formula pretty well.

10 out of 10 bloodthirsty, flatulent sheep
