Gregory

While
pretending to make a no-budget horror movie, a couple maniacs
plan to actually murder all their actors in the most gruesome
ways they can come up with.
Anti-Horror was one odd flick, lemme tell ya. Slipped to
me under the guise of “comedy-horror,” I didn’t know what to expect,
and that’s exactly what I got. The character of Gregory Kane was
simultaneously likeable and incredibly annoying. I despised him,
yet was fascinated with listening to him babble throughout the
flick.
The movie was pretty slow-starting, I’ve said many times that
the problem all indie films share is lack of editing. Sometimes
those scenes just need clipped a little. Luckily in Anti-Horror,
we have Kane’s perfect (see above) delivery to keep us focused.
By the time he snapped and was really crazy, I was disappointed
because I’d bought all his speeches about his horror movie goals.
The acting was mostly very good, there were a few areas of weakness,
but not much. Everything was done pretty well. The real strength
of the film came out at the end. Some of the most disturbing,
gut-wrenching (literally) violence I’ve ever seen. Both gross
and agonizing to watch, it’s really above-par.

A
very twisted and disturbing little tale of a couple psychos fixin'
to get their slaughter on, and when the slaughter finally starts,
heads up, 'cuz it don't slow down until the very end.
Eric Scealf is masterful as the seemingly normal, albeit a bit
eccentric indie horror director, however once the insanity begins,
we learn, QUiCKLY, that Scealf can play shithouse rat crazy like
no one's business. Is it just me, or does a backwoods "twang"
in someone's voice make them all the more scary? Maybe it's
just me.
Fortuately for the movie, the rest of the cast did exceptional
jobs as well. Dave may have been a bit to quirky and enunciated
too much, but it was part of his character. Plenty of blood and
torture, there were a few scenes that made this seasoned splatter
veteran cringe at the horror of what it would be like to endure
what these poor victims did.
Director Don Benjamin is either incredibly creative and talented,
or as crazy as his characters were, my guess is on the former,
and I look forward to seeing other projects of his. A fine addition
to the independent horror genre
