American Vampire
She's out for blood.
Reviewed by SirWiggle

Frankie is a young virgin who has been left with a big responsibility. His parents have gone to Europe for the summer and he is alone at home. One night while at the beach, his good friend Boagie is attacked by some kind of flying creature. Immediately after the attack, the two boys meet Moondoggie, a beach bum who likes to party.

Eager to use the empty house for fun, Boagie volunteers Frankie's house so that Moondoggie and his friends can party. Moondoggie arrives with two hot women, one of which is played by Carmen Electra, and a fat, goofy lackey named Bruno. They soon take control of the place and Frankie starts to notice something strange about his new guests. When the brood targets Frankie's fine and equally virginal girlfriend, he asks for help from the local vampire hunter, Ludwig Van Helsingmeister aka The Big Kahuna.

That's right. The last sentence of the previous paragraph is not a typo. This movie has some major problems, none of which were listed above. Let's start with the film's dialogue. Oftentimes throughout the film, the dialogue comes off as corny and predictable. There are several scenes in the movie that do not have any relation to the plot and it makes the movie seem longer than its hour and forty minutes.

Along with bad dialogue, there are equally bad characters. Bruno, Moondoggie's man servant, plays almost the exact same role as Jar Jar Binks did in Star Wars Episode I. He is of little significance to the story and is there only for comic relief. What would have been a relief was if his character was never introduced at all. The same can be said for Ludwig Van Helsingmeister. I really liked Adam West in the old Batman television show. That is why it is painful for me to see him in a role that is devoid of any intelligence whatsoever.

Finally, the production was amateurish at best and it gave me the feeling that I was watching someone's high school drama project. There was a scene in particular when Moondoggie first appears in Frankie's house where the boom mike is clearly shown dangling over the heads of the actors. And with little blood and no gore to speak of, this movie should not be seen by anyone.

If there was one positive aspect I could pull from this debacle it would be that the women involved were very hot. From Frankie's girlfriend to Moondoggie's two followers, there was enough scantily clad eye candy to avoid getting a big goose egg in my rating. However, the rest of the film's flaws were too severe to be overlooked.
