The Ambulance
You'll be in perfect health before you die.

The Ambulance is a crazy flick about a marauding ambulance that cleverly picks up victims and takes them to a makeshift hospital where they are experimented on. The patients may or may not survive. Our hero catches on to this racket as he tries to track down a girl that he was trying to harass into a date. She has a diabetes-related fainting spell on the street and a 60 year old ambulance whisks by and snatches her up. Only by much investigating does our hero unlock the truth, and learn about the mystery of…The Ambulance!

The Ambulance is a pretty unique flick. The premise is outrageous (especially for today) but they pull it off nicely. I don’t recall any gore or nudity, but Janine Turner plays in it and she is fine. There were also a couple good beat downs and rundowns. This movie was made in the late eighties, so terrible fashion, bad hair, and crazy dialogue are the menu for the day.

The movie flowed pretty good for me, though it seemed it could have ended earlier than it did. Despite some idiotic cop banter and some terrible pickup lines, the acting was good. I had to physically groan at the way this big ass ambulance could deftly take out people on the sidewalk. This thing had to have been a bear to navigate and drive around. It didn’t happen often, but was pretty lame nonetheless.

Overall, I enjoyed this movie pretty good. It’s not a movie I would have ever normally watched, due to its non-supernatural premise, but it was a decent way to spend two hours on a Sunday evening working off a hangover and beerjitsu wounds. It had good action and a unique plot (did I mention James Earl Jones?) I give it 5.5 out of 10 interviews that I could imagine being conducted by the evil doctor for the position of “Ambulance driver/abductor/all around bad guy”. “So, what experience do you have in abducting people?”
