The
second film in the series, Atrocity focuses on a high school
misfit and how a series of violent psychological traumas affect
him. The film follows the gentle Shunichi as he simply tries to
survive each day in his school, where a local gang leader continually
forces him to watch his gang's unspeakably violent crimes. Unaware
just how much psychological stress this causes for Shunichi, it
isn't long before the young boy breaks and turns into a violent
monster even more vicious than the one who created him.
I can’t say I liked this movie, but it was definitely shocking
and disturbing. Everyone in the flick is either a sadist or a
victim, and the main character is both. It’s an interesting film.
Asian filmmakers are known for being merciless when it comes to
brutality, and merciless to the viewers when it comes to the graphic
depictions of it.
The gang leader is gay, and wants Shunichi to be his boy-toy.
This is one mean, cold homo, ladies and gentlemen. If all homosexuals
were like him, homophobia would be completely reasonable. Seriously,
one scary bastard. He tortures women to show Shunichi how useless
and disgusting they are, so’s he can get some, and tortures Shunichi
when he’s rejected. And for fun.
The most disturbing scene is when he shows Shunichi the last victim
of the gang that was drugged and raped until “she’s useless” so
know he’s been starving and torturing her for entertainment. Then
he tortures her some more. It’s especially hard on the viewer
because the girl seems so frail and cute.
We’ve also got lots of burnings with a torch-lighter, lots of
beatings, cuttings, stabbings, a head stomping and more stabbings,
and probably some other stuff I’ve repressed. Unfunny, this flick,
as you might guess by the title.
