When
a young girl is brutally murdered and set on fire in a Catholic
Church, all eyes turn toward her own sister, Alice. Her mother
and father are unable to believe such things so they protect and
shield Alice. Later, while staying at her aunt's house, family
members begin to notice many new things about her and even her
mother and father begin to question their daughter's innocence.
Placed into a psychiatric hospital for her own good, Alice sits
and waits to be released. Outside, however, members of Alice's
family are being killed and attacked by a masked assailant. With
Alice locked up who could be doing the killings, or is it Alice
herself?
This one is a little long but has a surprise or two that kept
me guessing.
One of the major plot twists is revealed about halfway through
the movie, which was a shame because if left until the very end
it would have been perfect. Not a lot of blood and gore, but what
there is looks good and very realistic, especially the butcher
knife to the foot scene. Paula E Sheppard plays the young Alice
and the kid has the role down, the girl just oozes possible evil,
but is she? Also a downstairs landlord called Mr. Alphonson is
a sweaty, cheesy, 500 pound fat man that is to nasty not to mention,
the guy is vile. Alice Sweet Alice is also the first movie
for Brooke Shields, who plays Alice's unfortunate sister
Karen.
The movie itself is at times too long and some of the dialog way
too lengthy, but it is a very good story full of twists. I wouldn't
call it a classic or a must see, but it is well done for it's
day and age. I saw this on VHS but read a DVD is on the way, so
most of you if you want to check it out should be able to get
a copy in the very near future, if not now.
