Addiction
HUMANS
Reviewed by NFlames

A young businessman acting in self-defense accidentally kills a scumbag mugger who attacks him while on his way home to his lovely wife. Little does Bobby know that this act of self-defense will be the catalyst that unlocks the horrific beast lying dormant inside of him.

Addiction was a pretty interesting little indie flick. Penned by Joshua Nelson (who incidentally happened to play “Joey the Butcher” in one of my favorite indies Strange Things Happen at Sundown) Nelson and Director James Tucker do a pretty decent job bringing us this story about how an addiction affects one man’s life.

It’s funny how society normally classifies an addiction as something that has to be related to substance abuse, not entirely the case with Addiction.

Sure, there is somewhat of a heroin junkie back-story involving Bobby’s cousin Frankie (played by writer Nelson) and I think it was used to contrast a substance addiction to a physical addiction like Bobby’s necessity to get his murder fix on.

Obviously, Bobby’s life spins way out of control, and his new found love of taking lives quickly consumes his every waking moment and eventually ends up getting in the way of his job, and of course his marriage.

The movie chugged along at a pretty slow pace, and there was no gore to speak of. But this really wasn’t a slasher in the vein of American Psycho, no this was pretty much textbook low budget indie, and they pulled it off pretty well. The acting was above par by indie standards, and the dialog was well written. You could do a whole lot worse at Blockbuster or Hollywood Video.

5 out of 10 Junkie cousins who should’ve been cut off a long time ago.
