Pet Semetary
Sometimes dead is better.
REVIEWED BY RELICS

The Creeds have just moved into the home of their dreams. The only problem is that there’s a road in front of the house where trucks drive by at dangerous speeds. In fact, one nearly runs over little Gage! Luckily, he’s alright and life goes on according to plan until a man, who was run over by a truck, dies in Louis’s care. And that’s when things start going downhill, especially when they discover a trail behind their house that leads to a pet cemetery. And when Church is in an accident, the neighbor, Jud, shows him something more sinister...

You know what? The more Stephen King books I read, the more convinced I become that he has a serious vendetta against kids. Or I used to before I figured out that he’s just going for the shock factor. Either way, it did shock me at first when I read this book a few years ago. I’ve read it about ten times since then, but it still manages to bother me.

Considered to be one of his darkest books, King really gives it to us in this one. It deals with death, a subject that some people are very uncomfortable with. One of my favorite scenes was when Louis was explaining it to little Ellie, and she freaked out. Though the book couldn’t possibly happen, scenes like that brought it home to me.

I liked the characters for the most part. The only one that really grinded on my nerves at times was his wife, Rachel. She just bugged me. But that’s ok; every book you read, you always have someone that you don’t like. I enjoyed the book, it wasn’t perfect, but I really do enjoy reading it over and over again.

The Good News: It’s creepy. It goes into a lot more detail then the movie ever did. I prefer this over the movie, but that’s just me. It was a quick read for me. I had it done in about two or three days.

The Bad News: I don’t know why, but as much as I loved it, I can’t consider it my favorite book. It creeped me out way more than Pet Semetary ever did. And there’s just something that I can’t put my finger on that bothered me...

One of King’s better novels, I enjoyed it. A good read for late at night.

7 out of 10 screeching cats

Yes, another short review. I can't help it, I get nervous when I review books. I'm paranoid about spoiling anything. Besides, there are very few people I know that have never heard of PS. But for those who haven't, this shortness is for you.
