Carrie
REVIEWED BY RELICS

No, I am NOT dead, though I am in serious need of something to get rid of a stomach virus. But the good thing about this virus was that I was finally able to pick up and read again one of my favorite books by Stephen King: Carrie.

This was King’s first book under his name that he published. The plot is very, very simple compared to his other novels. Carrie White is a teenager girl that is a complete and total outcast. People are constantly picking on her, her mother is a religious psycho, and to make matters worse, she got her first period at sixteen years old. This starts the events that lead to the scene that has made Carrie famous. But I won’t say it because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone.

Carrie is a book that seriously touches on what humans are like. People are cruel to those who are different.

The main little group is led by Chris Hargensen, who is a world class bitch. Seriously, I hated her character because it was so real. We have all known someone who thinks that everyone’s crap stinks but hers. Another character is Susana Snell, who actually feels bad for what she did. Sue actually convinces her boyfriend to take Carrie to the dance.

I probably loved reading this book because it was so simple and easy to understand. Before some chapters, it has these interviews or clippings from books or newspapers that will actually tell you what did happen, but we’re given the events that led up to that fiery and deadly night. I also loved it because of the fact that I can relate to Carrie since our ages are so close.

The Good: A very good King novel in my opinion. It’s well paced, it was a fast read for me, and the last part of the book is one of my absolute favorite scenes in a book.

The Bad: If I do have a gripe, it’s that the clippings and interviews were a little annoying after a while. Seriously, that’s it.

Don’t come to this book expecting It. Don’t. It’s scary, but it’s scary because it’s so eerily close to real life. It’s one of the better Stephen King novels, and after reading about seven King books at once… It was a breath of fresh air.

9 out of 10 dirty pillows
