As
the last day of Horrorfind Weekend 2005 came to a close
and I was on my way out of the convention center, I decided
to have one more go in the celebrity room, one more shot to
get the hard facts on one of our horror icons. After getting
my ass handed to me by Conrad Brooks, a few hours ago, I decided
to really have some fun with whom ever I got the chance to talk
to.
I entered the celeb room and scanned the landscape. Kane (Hodder)
was gone, I had bothered Eugene Clark enough, Bruce Campbell
still had a line five miles long, Angus Scrimm was behind a
security railing, and Sid Haig was swamped as always. I looked
to the left and saw that Jeffery Combs line was fairly short
and was about to make my move, when I saw that Doug Bradley,
Pinhead himself, was sitting all by his lonesome.
With wife in tow, I hopped over to the head Cenobite’s table
and went to work. Although the character he plays is as evil
as hell, Doug himself is actually a very charismatic fellow,
and his English accent only makes him more likeable, I was also
hoping he would have a great sense of humor.
Jareprime:
Hi Doug, nice to meet you.
Doug Bradley: You too.
JP:
What questions do you get asked the most?
DB: Aghh, the top two have to
be: “How long does the make-up take?” and “Does it hurt?”
JP: I am with HorrorWatch.com and we ran a small poll and I
got the top two questions for you if you want to answer them
for us? (Now at this point, I was lying out of my ass and looking
through my notebook like I actually had something wrote down,
but Doug took the bait and I had a fight.)
DB: Sure, let’s go.
JP: Number one is How long does the make-up take? Um, well sorry
about that one.
DB: Yeah, I was hoping for something
different.
JP: OK the second one is: Did the pins hurt? Man, I guess you
do get asked those a lot.
DB: Yeah, I told you so.
JP: So Deader comes out in week, what’s next for you?
DB: Hellraiser: Hellworld.
JP: Will you be playing Freddy again?
DB: No I don’t think so.
JP: Well I think you’re the best Freddy there has been.
DB: I never played Freddy. I’m
Pinhead.
JP:
Who is that?
DB: The villain in the Hellraiser
series, you just said you watched one.
JP:
I’ve never seen one, I’m afraid of horror movies.
DB: Oh I see, then why are you
here?
JP: I came to see you. Freddy scared me so much as a kid, that
I had to meet you and know that you’re a real guy, not that
monster man.
DB: I’m not Freddy, this is me
here. (Points to a picture of Pinhead on his table.)
JP: Wow, I bet those pins hurt.
DB: A bit.
At this point I started laughing and told Doug that I was
just messing with him. I also told him what a great fan following
he has at HorrorWatch and to come check us out some time.
DB: Have you been here for the
whole weekend?
JP: Yes, it’s been fun, although I have spent all my money.
DB: Get a lot of goodies did you?
JP: Everything I came here for, I may need to sell it to get
home though.
DB: Next year, you will have to
budget yourself better.
JP: I got an idea, wanna help me out?
DB: I’m not sure, how?
JP: Let me sit here beside you and tell people I’m Butterball,
if I get to sign a few things, I’ll give you half and I’ll pocket
the rest, sound like a plan?
DB: Sure, let’s do it.
I got to hop back with Doug for a few seconds, and he actually
took the one picture of me we have posted in the galleries.
Doug was cool, calm and relaxed, plus he could take a good ribbing.
Next year, I promise to get a full interview with him, if he
is there. Be sure to check out his official website for more
on Pinhead himself, www.dougbradley.co.uk
